About the Semmes Murphey Foundation

Semmes Murphey Foundation’s mission is to improve patient care and community health by driving innovation and excellence in neuroscience.

The Foundation is a nonprofit research institute (EIN 38-3790195) governed by a board of physicians and community leaders. Contributions to the Foundation may be tax deductible. Please consult your financial advisor for guidance.

Founded on the principles of innovation, education, and patient-centered care established by Semmes Murphey Clinic in 1912, the Semmes Murphey Foundation advances neurosurgical and neurological care through research, training, and collaboration—locally, nationally, and internationally.

Linking the Past, Present & Future

Semmes Murphey Clinic has been a leader in neurosurgery for more than a century. Founded in 1912 by Eustace Semmes (who trained under Harvey Cushing, the father of modern neurosurgery) the Clinic built its reputation on excellence in spine surgery and complex neurological care.

As neuroscience has evolved, so has Semmes Murphey. Today, the Clinic is recognized for innovation and leadership in minimally invasive approaches that are transforming brain and spine care.

The Semmes Murphey Foundation is the bridge between these eras of innovation.

Established in 2007 and launched in 2010, the Foundation exists to ensure that the Clinic’s clinical expertise leads today and advances the field for tomorrow.

By supporting research, clinical trials, outcomes registries, and advanced fellowship training, the Foundation connects Semmes Murphey’s historic strengths in spine surgery with its growing leadership in endovascular and cerebrovascular care.
